Chula Vista October 25, 2009

Chula Vista October 25, 2009

This is our last full day here in Chula Vista. We have had gorgeous weather the entire stay.

Yesterday was a free day, Ed and I headed to the beach. We walked along Coronado Beach. The ocean is just so amazing, I found a house on the water but Ed said it was a bit out of range. The homes in Coronado start about a million dollars and water front property is in the three million to start range. I think we will enjoy the ocean with the RV. We walked through the hotel, another amazing site and very very pricey as well. We had lunch in town and did a bit of window shopping. We got back to camp in time for happy hour.. The gals went shopping and George and Ed R. were off to Costco and Frys Electronic. Pat, Gary and Steve were off on adventures as well.

This morning we went to Brunch at the restaurant on the Marina. AMAZING!!!! We stayed about two hours and everyone enjoyed a fine meal. It is very quiet outside and I suspect it is nap time for most of the group. Start the morning with champagne that generally requires an afternoon nap.

This evening we are having heavy snacks... I cannot spell the O word so bear with me..

Tomorrow we part ways, Ed, Dorothy, George, Bev, Ed and I are heading to Yuma, if we can ever get a reservation, guess they don't come alive until November. Pat, Jane, Gary and Phyllis are traveling home together, Steve and Sue are going home a different way. It has been a great week here in San Diego country, active week, good friends and of course good food and adult beverages... until next time...

Chula Vista October 24,2009

Chula Vista October 24,2009

Such a busy week that I have not had time to post every night.

Wednesday was our day to attend a Price Is Right taping. We left the park about 9:00 am and had to be at the studio no later than noon. We barely made it, traffic down here is crazy. Bev, who made the arrangements was sick that morning and not able to go with us. Ed R. stayed back at camp also, he was on dog duty, more about that later…..

We knew we were going to have a four hour wait, that said we did not know we would be in a long line sitting, then standing then moving sitting standing and moving all away around the building outside. We had cover which was nice and beautiful weather but I would not want to do this on an extremely hot day or rain. The groups in line were so enthusiastic and because we did not have the proper number for a group we were at the end of the line. They interview you at various places in line and I hate to admit it but by the time we got to the final interview, they are lucky they got our name! In spite of the long wait, I really enjoyed the experience watching a show being taped, even though we were the last group of folks in, the seats were fine and I think everyone else enjoyed the taping also. We all went to a BBQ place after the taping for dinner and then the long drive home again… Dorothy, made mention that it sure did not seem that long of a drive down! Our dear Dorothy slept the entire way down. She was smart! We got back to the RV Park about 10:30, so it was a very long day. Bev was feeling better by the time we got back.

Now to Ed R and the dog detail. Ed stayed home to take care of Jake and Max, also was nurse to Bev and a fine job he did. Not going to say who, but someone volunteered him to walk the BIG Labrador that belonged to a neighbor. Sweet dog , but he was a poopy machine that would put cows to shame! Needless to say there was no more volunteering.

Thursday, we all went to the Zoo. We had tickets that let us ride the buses and tram which is awesome since the San Diego Zoo is so huge and steep in places. Thank You Betty F. for providing those tickets. Again it was a gorgeous day, we saw a lot and attended a bird show that was outstanding.

Friday, we were off to the Harvest Festival in Del Mar. I personally love these shows and they are classy and have some awesome things. Harvest Festival will be in Sacramento November 20th through the 22nd if anyone is interested. I think we all came out with several bags. Thanks Steve for leading the way, Nuvi was going to take us on another wild goose chase.

Saturday morning and I am finally getting something posted. Today is a FREE day and Ed and I are going to Coronado Beach, some are off shopping and some are outside relaxing. More on today’s adventures later… Until next time…..

Chula Vista October 20, 2009

Chula Vista October 20, 2009

I have been slacking off with the blog, so this is catch up time. We left Indio to meet up with the SIRS 15 RV Group at Chula Vista RV Resort in Chula Vista. By 4:00 PM Sunday afternoon the rigs arrived and set up. Steve and Sue were the first ones in, followed by Ed and I, George and Bev, Ed and Dorothy, Pat and Jane, Gary and Phyllis. Our trip from Indio was uneventful until we somehow got on a toll road. Could not figure why there was no traffic for a while until we came to a stop and had to pay. Good thing there was no traffic with a 39 foot Motor home and a passenger car trying to pay the dang toll. Damn Nuvii…… it should have spent the night in the freezer. Happy Hour and talking of plans for the week was in order for the evening.

Monday was a kick back day, nothing really exciting just walking on the wharf, a few errands by some of the folks. Happy Hour of course then some of us played Mexican Train which did not last long and we switched to Farkle.. A fun dice game !!

Tuesday, the plan was a trip to the San Diego ZOO. That plan came to a screeching halt when the freeway was closed due to a gal trying to jump off an overpass. So, to PLAN B. It did not take long for the ladies to decide on shopping at Otay Shopping Center. A very nice outdoor mall with some very neat shops, of course our favorites, Coldwater Creek, Chico’s Macys. Retail therapy is always good for the soul. The fellas went in search of a restaurant Pat wanted to have lunch, on their adventure they found the freeway to be open again so we could have made the Zoo trip, which is now put off until Thursday. We had dinner tonight at one of the restaurants on the wharf.

Tomorrow we are off to Hollywood to attend a taping of The Price Is Right. I don’t think anyone is excited about the drive there but we should have fun in Hollywood.

Until tomorrow or whenever I get a chance to update….

Back to the Desert October 12, 2009

On the road again…

We finally pulled into Indio about 5:30 PM tonight. I was not able to get online last night but the drive to Bakersfield was uneventful. Unlike today that’s for sure. We were on the road by 9:00 AM with a first stop at Four Corners for breakfast. Did not happen, just outside of Tehachapi we were diverted off the freeway due to a very bad accident a few miles up the road. We found a place to park in a pull off area about half a mile from the freeway. It almost looked like a RV Park before long, as well as big rigs and cars etc. We were there three and half hours when they finally opened the road. Once back on the freeway, it was not long before we were going about three miles an hour, down to one lane passing the accident. Not sure how many vehicles were involved but one big rig was burnt down to the tires, the trailer was also burnt. There were casualties so that is why it took so long to clear the accident. You would think it would give motorist a heads up, like drive a bit better within some kind of speed limit, but no………. there were idiots doing stupid things, sometimes I just don’t get it. Just thankful we are here at our destination, a long day but looking forward to a nice week in the desert.
The park looks quiet, only seventy five coaches in here now. By the end of the month it should be closer to capacity. November 1st is the start of the season here in the desert. The grounds are being replanted, it looks a little bare right now but in a month or so should be gorgeous.
First thing on the agenda tomorrow is a nice bike ride around the park. It is a little cool here right now but should be back to the 90’s by the end of week. Ed is looking forward to the hot weather and pool time.
Until Tomorrow…….. Goodnight!

Farewell Sleepy Hollow Lane

Sleepy Hollow Lane

After almost two years on the market, farewell to Sleepy Hollow Lane. It has been a hectic eight weeks or so and we did not want to say anything for sure until the deal was a “done deal” I suspect the neighbors had a clue with all the activity and moving, especially the way WE move. Ed does not believe in moving vans so everything was moved out in the SUV and pickup. When we put the house on the market many months ago, we cleared out quite a bit but good grief we still had quite a bit to go through and move. Many boxes were donated to Hospice and the Cancer Society and I still have things to go through that we moved that I did not have time for. The couple that bought the home are very excited and I wish them good luck and many happy times at Sleepy Hollow, it is a comfy house and lots of room for growth.
We have many fond memories of our first home together. All the holidays, decorating the entire house and fences for Christmas. Having a lovely dining room for family and friends to enjoy the holiday meals. Easter was always special also, with the huge yard all the grandkids, nieces, nephews and friends had a great time hunting for eggs and we always lucked out with nice weather. Ed would always find a few with the lawn tractor after the festivities but that is all part of it. The sleepovers where the family room was covered with sleeping bags and kids sleeping after wearing me out . Spending time in front of the fire (pellet stove) just the two of us, watching TV, reading or just relaxing was especially nice.
Ed did a lot of work on the grounds. When we moved in there was a huge pile of dirt in front of the house, the only grass was around the pool. Within two years the front lawn was put in and the back pasture was made into a gorgeous lawn. Many hours were spent on that yard and he loved doing it. The one thing missing now is the playhouse, we had to take that down several years ago but the kids enjoyed it for quite a few years. I would find strange things in that playhouse. The kids also enjoyed the “forest” aka the redwood trees. Now there I would find my towels or blankets that were made into forts among other household items.

Wishing the couple that now occupies Sleepy Hollow Lane, much happiness, good times, fond memories, I am happy the house is now a home again.

Many happy memories but it is time to move on and be a permanent resident of Amador County.

Back Home August 19,2009

Home Sweet Home, or oh my gosh where did all that laundry come from? Two days later and I am still working on it. Saw Jane last night at the investment meeting, she and Pat made it home without any problems. Betty and Ken are back, and George and Bev should be home today. I wish we could have come home via the coast rather than the valley and 100 +heat but when Ed gets homeanitis, it is the quickest and fastest way home. The blacktop in front of the shop was not done on Monday as we thought. John and employees and equipment are on a fire so should be done this Friday. The coach is parked in front of the house and I just hope I don't hit the dang thing with my car backing out of the garage.

I know the rest of the group heading UP the Oregon coast are having a blast, wish we were there. Ya'all can comment on the blog and let us know where you are. Have a wonderful trip and as always safe travels.

The repairs on George's rig went very well and they were out on the road by 11:00 am yesterday. That is the way it should be, one day to repair rather than spending days at a time at the service center.

Just a note, Ed did open the house up before he was on the tractor. We arrived home about 1:30 from Redding. All lawns were cut and edged by 4 :00 sprinklers tested, water tank tested A-OK. The normal routine. Grass was green so Ed was happy. I got 267 miles driving time on this trip. Dang book was too good to put down. HOWEVER, I did have some of those scary roads and construction.

Hope to see some of you at the picnic on Thursday, we have appointments in Elk Grove in the morning so if all goes well, we shall see you.. if things go normal, maybe not

Coos Bay Trip Day 8 Travel day.

Coos Bay Trip Day 8 Travel day
It is always sad to break camp and move on, especially leaving good friends and heading home. We left about 8:15 am with Pat and Jane, Dave and April, Gary and Marilyn, Gary and Phyllis, traveling over to Interstate 5 to Redding. Dave, April Ed and I stopped at Seven Feathers for fuel and food. An easy place to pull in to fuel and we made a note for future travels. We had breakfast then back on the road. We would pass or catch up to the travel group but we stopped quite often so Ed could move around. I was not feeling very well today so did not drive but plan on getting some miles in tomorrow. We were the last to pull into Premiere RV Resorts in Redding. This is a good stop, easy access and a nice place. The plan is to meet for breakfast in the morning and five rigs pull out heading for Amador County.
I did not get to say goodbye to everyone this morning, but wish them all safe travels and more good times for the rest of their trip. Ed and I also want to thank Pat, Jane, George and Bev for putting this trip together. Also thanks to all those that pitched in to arrange busses and reservations, doing the breakfast etc. It was mentioned that it takes team work to put these trips together to be a success; it certainly shows with this group...
Below a few more pictures of a great trip.

Coos Bay Day 7 Seafood Festival Last Day

Coos Bay Day 7 Seafood Festival
We got through the entire week without rain, sunshine every day. The wind is kicking up now but we have been so lucky with the weather so far. Today was the Seafood Festival in Coos Bay. Most of the group wandered over. It is a small festival, lots of seafood and some crafts. There was a pancake breakfast which Ed decided to try.
Ed and I took a ride and checked out The State park campground next to the one we are staying in. It looked pretty nice, advantage concrete pads and grass but they did not have the beach access as we do here in Oceanside RV Park. We drove down the road a ways just to see what is in the area. It is so pretty up here, everything is green.
Ed and I took the last walk on the beach today. I love the ocean and one of my favorite things to do. The wind was a problem but had to take the last stroll down the beach. There were body surfers and lots of kids on skid boards.
The evening is ending with a trip to the Casino for dinner. Rosie arranged for the shuttle to pick us up here at the park, we have dinner reservations then an hour or two of gambling.
Tomorrow, we break camp; Ed and I are heading home, as well as Gary and Phyllis, Pat and Jane, Gary and Marilyn, Ken and Betty, Bill and Lil, Arnie and Marilynn, Dave and April. George and Bev are on the way to Cobourg for repairs, Leonard and Paula, Rosie and Mike, Butch and Betty, John and Adele are going to be on the road next week and meet up with SIRS 96 in Lebanon Oregon, a week of golf and more good times with good people. Thanks to everyone for a great time, all the good food, and SAFE TRAVELS to you all!!

Day 6 Shipwreck Breakfast/ Potluck and Pirate Raffle

Another great weather day, just a bit of wind but sunny and warm. The day started with a “Shipwreck Breakfast”. A very unique way to cook breakfast. Bev, Jane and Lil spend quite a bit of time getting the ingredients prepared. Shipwreck breakfast … Use a zip lock bag, put in beaten eggs, ingredients that would go into an omelet, such as cheese, onions, peppers, ham, crab, mushrooms, just about anything you would like in an omelet. A ladle of beaten eggs and the ingredients of choice, take the air out of the bag, zip and drop in boiling water for about ten minutes. The omelet comes out perfect and even. I enjoyed this breakfast and I generally do not eat eggs. There was also Bloody Mary’s, Mimosa’s , fresh fruit, what a feast to start the day. Butch and George were the outside chefs, they monitored the boiling bags and only one exploded. This was a lot of fun and something easy to do on a campout.

Good news , Butch got the parts to fix his hitch. I think all of us out and about today wanted to follow the UPS trucks to see if the part was being delivered. The hitch is fixed and Butch and Betty are ready to travel. Folks just went in different directions today, a few of the gals did go to Coos Bay for a little shopping but nothing really exciting.

This evening we had a potluck and we had quite a bit of leftovers from last night’s catered dinner and with side dishes and dessert another festive meal. Tonight was also the Pirate Raffle. Each rig provided a gift and we had tickets, pick a gift then three steals, there was a very popular bird house, lighthouse, and scrabble game.

Our week is winding down, tomorrow will be our last full day. I have to get at least one more walk on the beach.
