Lake Powel September 28, 29, 2011

I figured I would not have an Internet connection and I was correct.

We left St. George yesterday and had an easy day drive, only 155 miles. The roads were good and we all made it without incident. We were able to see a little bit of this Wahweap Campground and Resort. The campsites are great, very roomy and no dirt. There is a hotel and boat ramps, Houseboats, private and for rent, just a huge resort. Weather is in the mid 90’s which is warm for this area at this time of year. We had Happy Hour and made plans for the next day……. We always have Happy Hour ya know!!!

Butch, Betty, Ed M., Carol, Jeff, Gail, Ed and I went into Page and had breakfast this morning Ranch House Grille, very nice breakfast. We visited the Glen Canyon Dam and saw a movie on how the dam and bridge were built. There will be pictures to show how spectacular this structure really is. Construction on the Dam started in October 1956. The main purpose of the dam was to provide water storage for the Southwest and to generate power for the growing communities. The Glen Canyon Bridge was actually built in California then disassembled. Then half the bridge was transported to each side of the canyon. By 1959 Glen Canyon Bridge was completed permitting trucks to deliver supplies to build the dam. Glen Canyon Dam was dedicated by Lady Bird Johnson on September 22, 1966.

This afternoon, we took a 21/2 boat ride around Lake Powell. This area is so beautiful. The rock formations are all so different. The colors are spectacular and there are like sketches in the rocks. There are many variations and people can see different scenes in the same rock. We went through a very narrow canyon where you could almost touch the sides of the rocks, which we were told absolutely not to do. There were other boats in this area and one I thought for sure we were going to collide with. It was a beautiful day and enjoyed the beauty of this area on this boat trip.

We had our Happy Hour and enjoyed our last evening at Lake Powell. I would love to come back to this area again...

Until next time.....
